Getting to and from the trail - Lyme Regis, Weymouth and Poole or Bournemouth

If you ask us for a quote we will include public transport or parking information to suit your walking holiday and for those booking we advise and assist in helping you to work out and book the best travel options for your walk.

Arriving and departing by public transport works best for this route and saves a fairly long or expensive journey back to your car at the end of your walk though it is possible if you prefer to drive - see below

Train travel to the Dorset Coast Path Walking HolidayTrain Arrival  - Fast direct trains run from London Waterloo station to Axminster taking 2 hours and 43 minutes. From here regular buses take 20 minutes to reach Lyme Regis (or we can arrange a transfer).

Train Departure -  From Poole direct trains return to London taking 2 hours 15 minutes or you can also depart from nearby Bournemouth for London - trains take just under 2 hours if you prefer to spend you last night there.

Weymouth provides a good midway arrival and departure point with direct trains to London taking 2 hours 45 minutes.

Parking and Driving information for walking the South West Coastal Path DorsetCar -  Long stay parking is available Lyme Regis or Poole. Getting back to your car by public transport takes a around 3 hours using the Jurassic Coast Bus service from Poole via Weymouth or you can also do part of the journey by train.

 

Public Transport information for the South West Coast Path Walk Dorset Coach Arrival -  There are no direct coaches from London to Lyme Regis but you can take National Express Coaches to nearby Bridport OR Honiton to connect with Lyme Regis by local bus - ask for advice.

Coach Departure - Direct National Express Coaches run from Poole and Bournemouth to London.

Overseas visitors to Dorset Coast Path for walking holidays travel informationArriving from Overseas - Those arriving from overseas will usually arrive in the UK at London Gatwick or London Heathrow airport from where you can connect to the rail network to catch direct trains to Axminster for Lyme Regis or to join the path midway along the route at Weymouth.  There are a few direct international flights to Bournemouth airport - see below for details on getting to the trail from Bournemouth Airport.

Internal Flights - Exeter airport allows access to the starting point at Lyme Regis in a journey of around 2 hours. The Jurassic Coastline bus X53 runs directly from Exeter Town Centre to Lyme Regis.

Bournemouth Airport is very well placed for the end of the walk-  after you finish your walk it is around 1 hour 20 minutes from Poole or only 40 minutes from Bournemouth to the airport on public transport. For those arriving at Bournemouth to travel to the start of the trail at Lyme Regis allow 3 hours by public transport to reach the trail.
