Route: Mendip Way Name: Fiona Walked on: 27th September 2020

Planning and booking for your walk with Encounter Walking Holidays

"I booked the walk in October 2019 and received good advice and support about the accommodation options. And then the pandemic arrived, and EWH did an excellent job of giving me up-to-date local information, and also booked meals for me along the route to ensure I wouldn't run into problems with restricted dining capacity."

Encounter Walking Holidays Website

"Easy to find things, and lots of details on each route."

Your Walking Routes

"i only walked from Weston-super-Mare to Wells as there was heavy rain during the days I should have walked from Wells to Frome. The sections I did walk were accessible and pretty-well signposted. I also walked from Wells to Glastonbury following the route recommended on the website, and that is also usable - though some of the stiles on the Monarch's Way are in poor condition and very wobbly, and East Street Farm on the eastern approach to the Tor will make you clamber over a farm gate."

Walking notes, maps, guidebooks and itinerary

"The notes were detailed and accurate, and it was good to have the OS maps for extra reference, and for use during the walk to Glastonbury. The Itinerary was full of useful local information, with phone numbers, and care had clearly been taken to make it up to date for COVID-19 conditions."

Luggage transfers

"Trouble-free and always very prompt. I even managed to arrange a transfer for myself along with the luggage on a particularly rainy day."

Accommodation

"A nice range of different styles of accommodation, each one friendly and comfortable. If you are staying at the George Hotel in Frome, it is well worth paying a bit extra (and booking well in advance) in order to get the room with the 4-poster bed. Wonderful!"

Overall experience

"It was my first experience of a self-guilded walking holiday with luggage transfers, and it was everything I had hoped, both for the pleasure of the walks, and for how smoothly the arrangements worked out."

Route: Two Moors Way Name: Peter Robinson Walked on: 14th September 2020

Planning and booking for your walk with Encounter Walking Holidays

"One reason we chose encounter was that the quotation was better than the other one we received. Telephone calls were answered by friendly and helpful staff."

Your Walking Routes

"When we walked from the Tarr Steps to Withypool, the Two Moors Way path is in conflict with a one way circular walk from the Steps. We missed the diversion sign (if there was one). To avoid walking in the opposite direction to other walkers, you need to walk up the western side of the river Barle and cross the footbridge as if on the circular walk. We obviously annoyed several walkers we met!"

Accommodation

"Of a good standard with friendly and hospitable hosts. We particularly enjoyed our stay at the Partridge Arms Farm."
