The Encounter Eden Trail

Giving you a taste of everything on your pilgrimage from a visit to the world famous Eden Project our trail takes you through ancient woodlands, ivy clad chimneys from Cornwalls industrial past and on past sandy beaches and covers to the dramatic cliffs of the Gribbin Head Peninsular. A complete spectrum of Cornwall in only 2 or 3 days walking.

Day 1 : Eden Visit with 5 miles - easy inland walking

Dropped at the pretty village of Luxulyan for a gentle 2½ mile walk along the ancient Saints Way a great introduction to the inland Cornwall landscape. Following the footsteps of drovers and pilgrims through woodland and meadow you to emerge at Eden with plenty of time to enjoy a visit without the cars and queues but with fast track entry and a £3 discount on your entrance fee.

After a good ½ day of exploring a quick downhill drop of around 2½ miles passing disused mines and overgrown chimneys skirting the town of St Austell brings you to the coast at Charlestown where you spend an atmospheric night amongst the tall ships in this unique historical harbour.

Day 2 : 10 miles Charlestown to Fowey - moderate coastal walking

Today takes you into a full day of completely different walking. Out along the coast heading across Par Sands towards dramatic Gribbin Head, the inspiration for Daphne Du Maurier's works and a stunning walk along cliffs and through tiny coves breaking at the tiny harbour village of Polkerris for lunch. Passing the mighty Gribbin Head tower you drop through Polridmouth inspiration for Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca tracing tiny coves and rugged cliffs before emerging into unspoilt Fowey via the remains of dramatic St Catherine's Castle and the perfect little beach cove at Readymoney bay.

Fowey is a fantastic space to spend a night with its winding streets, award winning restaurants and galleries and of course its fantastic panorama over the stunning natural harbour to Polruan.

Extra Day : Fowey to Lerryn - 8 miles moderate estuary walking

Catching the tiny passenger ferry across the harbour to Polruan you leave the winding streets to join the famous Hall Walk inland around stunning Pont Pill. Heading into the remote eastern side of the Fowey River Estuary, crossing the valleys and heath on route inland to Lerryn you finish with a beautiful 3 mile section following the river alongside Lerryn's ancient woodlands watching for buzzard, kingfisher, egret and if the tide is in shoals of leaping mullet, before emerging into this idyllic and perfect little creek side village.
